blurb

A total disaster? Or the start of something special?

Kailyn Flowers was always calm and controlled – until she ended up sprawled all over Daxton Hughes, the former actor she totally crushed on as a teenager. In seconds, she became a mortifying fangirl and oddly enough, he didn’t run away. Instead, their meet cute led to something she never expected: a friendship. Of course, she never expected him to betray her, either . . .

Eight years later, Dax needs Kailyn’s help. Years of anger towards him haven’t exactly left Kailyn inclined to oblige, but she also isn’t heartless enough to turn him down. She vows to be friendly, but soon their ‘friendly’ meetings turn into flirty dinner dates, and Kailyn can feel their chemistry is as explosive as ever. But how can she possibly let down her guard again to a guy who has heartbreak written all over him?

ROMANCE Standalonebook100 Sweet100 family4100

Kaitlyn and Dax met eight years ago in law school, where she literally ran into him. Throughout the school years they had a friendly rivalry, but due to misunderstandings their paths went separate ways before they had  a chance at romance. Eight years later they meet again, when Dax needs her legal help.

I actually liked the fact that this book dealt with serious and humorous topics, it was well balanced. Even though Kaitlyn and Dax’s meeting eight years ago was a very short part of the book, I enjoyed how Kaitlyn had grown from a tenage fangirl to a professional adult. The romance between Kaitlyn and Dax was very sweet and definitely loved the scenes between Dax and her little sister. It was a marvellous rom com with serious undertones.

blurb

When Krissy Hancock and her best friend Vicki decide to open a bookstore café in their new town of Pine Hills, they decide to call it “Death by Coffee,” after Krissy’s father’s most famous mystery novel. Little do they know how well the name fits…

On their very first day of business, Brendon Lawyer huffily takes his coffee…to the grave. It seems he had a severe allergy to peanuts…but how could there have been nuts in his coffee? And who stole his emergency allergy medication?

Fortunately, Krissy’s love of puzzles and mysteries leads her not only to Officer Paul Dalton, but also to many of her new neighbors, who aren’t terribly upset that the book is closed on Brendon. But one of them is a killer, and Krissy needs to read between the lies if she wants to save her new store—and live to see how this story ends…

mythoughts

Krissy and her friend Vicki decided to open a bookstore cafe and name it after Krissy’s father’s book Death by coffee. It was supposed to be an eye catching name for the cafe, but turned out  a real life murder mystery case to be solved.

It’s the first book in Bookstore Cafe Mystery Series and I quite enjoyed it. I liked the mystery and the setting, but the main character Krissy liked to poke her nose where it didn’t belong way too often and too strongly. The bookstore cafe idea I really much enjoyed and the fact that there were cats roaming freely. All in all, it was a decent cozy mystery and I’ll pick up the next book in the series soon to find out if the series is for me or not.

blurb

Welcome to Normal, Kentucky~ where nothing is normal. A Campers and Criminal Mystery Series is another brainchild of USA Today Bestselling Author Tonya Kappes. If you love her quirky southern characters and small town charm with a mystery to solve, you’re going to love her new cozy mystery series!

Mae West, a far cry from the Hollywood actress, has been thrown for a loop. Her plush lifestyle in the big city of New York comes to a screeching halt after the FBI raids her mansion and arrests her husband, Paul West, for a Ponzi scheme that rips people out of millions of dollars.

Mae finds herself homeless, friendless, and penniless. All hope isn’t lost. . .the only thing Mae got to keep that the government didn’t seize is a tourist camp ground, Happy Trails, in Normal, Kentucky and an RV to live in. One problem, Mae’s idea of camping has room service.

By the look of the brochure, Happy Trails has plush Kentucky Bluegrass, a crystal clear lake, a beach chair with her name on it and thoughts of how much money it could bring her after she sells it. Mae figures she’ll take a couple weeks vacation with her toes dipped in the lake. Things aren’t always as they appear. The Kentucky Bluegrass is nothing but dirt and the crystal clue lake is murky with green slime on top.

Mae quickly find out that Happy Trails and the citizens of Normal were also victims of Paul’s schemes, making her lower than tha lake scum in the residents’ eyes. Mae doesn’t think things could get much worse, but as luck would have it, Paul West has escaped from prison and is found dead, murdered, floating in the Happy Trails mucky green lake.

Mae is the number one suspect on Detective Hank Sharp’s short list. After all, Mae has the perfect motive as a kept wife who has been scorned to ashes, embarrassed to death, and seeking revenge.

Time is running out for Mae to prove that she’s innocent and nothing like her husband. If only she could get someone to believe her and talk Detective Sharp into looking at other residents who’ve lost all their savings to Paul’s Ponzie scheme before the curtain is closed on this Hollywood namesake.

mythoughts

Mae’s life was good until her husband Paul’s Ponzie scheme came out and she was left with empty hands. When she met with their lawyer she learns that the only thing she was left is an RV and a campground  Happy Trails located in Normal, Kentucky. She decides to go to Normal and think how to go on, but the reality doesn’t match with the pictures of the brochure. While trying to make the campground more presentable, she learns that her ex husband took money from a lot of people in Normal too and she decides to make it up for them as much as she can. In the middle of it all it turns out that her husband run away from prison and when he is found dead in the lake, it’s important to find out who did it.

It’s my first Tonya Kappes’s book, but as I enjoyed the first book I continued with the second book and will read the rest of the series. I liked the friendships and the campground Happy Trails very much. The mystery was well written and the story flowed smoothly. I’d recommend this series to anyone who likes cozy mysteries or even for people, who don’t usually read cozies.

mythoughts

Marianne’s world fell apart, when her parents died and she was left at the mercy of her stepbrother. Marianne didn’t feel safe and decided to flee. Luckily she found a job as a governess; having a new identity and a new place to live, she felt safe. Her new job as a governess for a new Earl of Kingswood is becoming more than a regular job as the Earl is really handsome and they seem to enjoy their time together. Marianne wanted to keep her identity a secret, but but happens, when secrets start to crumble before her eyes?

It was my first book by the author, but definitely won’t be the last as I really enjoyed it. Marianne was a bold and strong female protagonist and Ash was a handsome, smart and determined male protagonist. The lovestory between Marianne and Ash was very well written and I enjoyed every part of it. Well written book that I’d definitely recommend.

mythoughts

Grace and Charles met years ago, when they were both studying medicine. After spending a night together their life went separate ways due to certain circumstances. When Grace started her new job, her first day in Manhattan Mercy ER was a very challenging day and in addition to that she also ran into Charles. They still have the spark between them, but so many years later, they both have a difficult past to overcome.

It’s the first book in Christmas in Manhattan and it was a solid start to the series. I like the setting in New York and also the second chance romance and the adorable twin boys. It was a great book about finding happiness even if life has thrown difficult hardships on your path. It was a heartwarming and heartbreaking book at the same time.

mythoughts

Millie was invited to co-present Claudia Croft’s famous Festive Feast cookery course at Stonelea Manor. It gives Millie a great opportunity work-wise, but she also gets to meet with Zach, whom she previously met in the Caribbean. The feelings are still there and seeing Zach once again in  Cotswolds, will there be a future for the two of them?

It’s the first book I read in the The Paradise Cookery School series and even though it can be read as a standalone, I wish I had read the two previous books as well, just to have more background on the characters as this was a wonderful Christmassy story. I found the main characters as much as the secondary characters wonderful and the setting was fantastic too. It’s a great book full of romance, friendship and culinary delights. I’d gladly recommend this book for the holiday season.
