A year ago, Sadie Stewart’s whole world was shattered when her husband, Ross, died. She has struggled to keep herself together for the sake of their young daughter, but with the anniversary of his death approaching, Sadie finds herself overwhelmed by grief.
Sadie and Riley work at Chandlers shoe shop, in the charming town of Hedworth. But when Chandlers is threatened with closure, the friends are confronted with the loss of not only their jobs, but also their support network – the glue that holds them together when they are close to breaking.
As they put together a plan to save their beloved shop, Sadie realises that she might just be learning to live again. Could it be that new beginnings are just round the corner? The campaign also finds Riley unexpectedly crossing paths with charming photographer, Ethan. Maybe her second chance at love is right under her feet …
Riley , Sadie and Dan all work in Chandler’s shoe shop. They are not just colleagues but also good friends, who enjoy working together at the same place. Suzanne is in charge of the shop and as she needs the sales to increase, so she makes her employees work more, but isn’t interested in any changes that Riley is suggesting to make it happen. Riley is the manager of the shop and she still decides to make some changes to bring more customers in to the shop. The changes in shop was the beginning of changes in everyone’s life.
I liked all characters, even Suzanne, who seemed very unpleasant at first, but after things got sorted out, she turned out to be a great character. Riley wasn’t very lucky, when it came to love and she didn’t really hope to find a new, who was trustworthy. Sadie was a widow, who lost her husband less than a year ago and raised their six year old daughter alone. She was still grieving and didn’t know how to move on whereas still keep her husband’s memory alive. Dan was looking a new love after breaking up with his girlfriend. He went back home after the break up and went on several online dates, which were all quite disastrous, but really funny afterwords.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I really felt the strong friendship between the characters. It showed how important it is to have loyal and caring people around you, when times get rough. It was thought provoking, heartwarming and a great addition to my top reads of the year.
