Sound is an abstract concept for most people. We spend our lives blocking out the static in order to focus on what we believe is important. But what if, when the clarity fades into silence, it’s the obscure background noise that you would give anything to hold on to?
I’ve always been a fighter. With parents who barely managed to stay out of jail and two little brothers who narrowly avoided foster care, I became skilled at dodging the punches life threw at me. Growing up, I didn’t have anything I could call my own, but from the moment I met Eliza Reynolds, she was always mine. I became utterly addicted to her and the escape from reality we provided each other. Throughout the years, she had boyfriends and I had girlfriends, but there wasn’t a single night that I didn’t hear her voice.
You see, meeting the love of my life at age thirteen was never part of my plan. However, neither was gradually going deaf at the age of twenty-one.
They both happened anyway.
Now, I’m on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life.
Fighting for my career.
Fighting the impending silence.
Fighting for her.
Every night, just before falling asleep, she sighs as a final conscious breath leaves her.
I think that’s the sound I’ll miss the most.
Till and Eliza are both from families, where are a lot of issues and that’s what connects them. Since they are teenagers they meet at an abandoned apartment, which is their secret place, where they can get away from the real world and problems. Till is the eldest brother of three boys and he is a brother and a father figure to the younger boys. When they get older, Eliza goes to college and gets her own apartment. Due to coincidence or fate Till gets an apartment in the same apartment building, where Eliza is living. They are so close to each other again, but there’s a lot in their lives going to happen. Till started to train at On the ropes and in time he became a good fighter. He even started to earn good money and was able to provide better life for his brothers and Eliza. Things seem to go well until his disease gets worse and he is about to become deaf. Till and Eliza fight together against anything that comes their way,but eventually Till has to make the right decisions, so they can be a happy family together.
I really liked how the book kept me entertained throughout the story, even if you thought you know how the story goes, unexpected things popped up. It is a great story, which is filled with emotions, it’s simply beautiful book. There are two more books in the series, so there’s a chance to read about the other Page’s brothers.
