Series: Summer #1
Author: Jenny Han
Release Date: May 5th 2009
Genre: Young Adult, Romance
Every year Isabel spends a perfect summer at her family friends’ house. There’s the swimming pool at night, the private stretch of sandy beach… and the two boys. Unavailable, aloof Conrad – who she’s been in love with forever – and friendly Jeremiah, the only one who’s ever really paid her any attention. But this year something is different.
It’s a summer-feel book about teenage years, becoming older and realizing that you can’t take everything in your life for granted, because sometimes life is unfair and things change even if you are not ready for it. Belly, her brother and their mom go to Cousins beach every summer. She is counting her time in summers, it’s her favorite time. At the Cousins they’ll spend the summer with Beck and her two sons. Belly has had a crush on Conrad for a long time, but things didn’t really go the way she dreamed about. One summer she meets Cam and she is happy that for once a boy notices her and says all those beautiful things, but even then, she can’t get over Conrad, he is still on her mind. I found Belly a bit annoying and childish, but other characters and the ending made it still a decent read. I wasn’t very impressed with the past and present chapters, there were a bit too many chapters from the past. I’m going to continue with the series to find out how Belly’s life goes after another interesting summer she had at the Cousins.
