Blurb: For almost two years now, Kiera’s boyfriend, Denny, has been everything she’s ever wanted: loving, tender and endlessly devoted to her. When they head off to a new city to start their lives together, Denny at his dream job and Kiera at a top-notch university, everything seems perfect. Then an unforeseen obligation forces the happy couple apart.
Feeling lonely, confused, and in need of comfort, Kiera turns to an unexpected source—a local rock star named Kellan Kyle. At first, he’s purely a friend that she can lean on, but as her loneliness grows, so does their relationship. And then one night everything changes…and none of them will ever be the same.
Kiera and Denny are a perfect couple, they have been together for two years and can’t imagine being apart, when Denny gets an internship in Seattle. Kiera gets a scholarship and continues her studies there, to be with him. They’ll get a place at Denny’s old high school friend Kellan. Kellan is a handsome musician in a band called D-Bags. Everything seems to go perfectly, Kiera gets a job at the local bar Pete’s, where Kellan’s band is often playing, she gets to know the other band members and makes new friends at the work place. It was all good until Denny told that he is going to leave for the summer, due to a work project. Understandably Kiera doesn’t like it, she moves to be with him, but he leaves her after they settled in, but they call each other often and it doesn’t seem so bad. Life goes on and at one point Denny doesn’t call as often as he use to, which eventually ends up with a huge fight that leads to Kiera falling into Kellan’s comforting arms. Since that moment nothing is the same; when Denny comes back they both have to deal with the guilt and the attraction they feel towards each other.
I understood why it took so long for Kiera to make a decision between two guys, who she both loved in a different way, but also it was frustrating to wait until she is finally ready to make the decision, at one moment she was into Denny, and at the other moment she only saw Kellan. There were so many moments when they were almost caught by Denny, but they were always lucky until the very last time, when Denny got suspicious and found out the truth, which at first had tragic consequences, but eventually everything fell into place.
In general I liked the characters, they were all different and unique in their own way, but my favorite was Kellan, who wouldn’t have liked him? At first he seemed like a typical womanizer, who just takes one girl after another, but after getting to know him and learning more about his past and his actions, it made him even more likable.
I really enjoyed this book and I am definitely going to continue with the series to find out how Kellan and Kiera’s relationship is going to continue, after they finally ended up together at the end of the first book.
- “I want to be someone’s everything. I want fire and passion, and love that’s returned, equally. I want to be someone’s heart.”
- “I don’t know how to let you back in.” My heart beat spiked and I closed my eyes when he whispered,” I don’t know how to keep you out either.”
- “I know there’s something here. I know you want more. Tell me…and it’s yours.”
- “I couldn’t tell you what I had just figured out. That I desperately loved you.”
